The company also announced that they won a 2013 Food & Beverage Innovation Award (FABI) from the National Restaurant Association. The Oakland-based company was started in May 2012 by Amy Barnes, a cancer survivor and Celiac, and her husband, Jeffrey Barnes, a veteran of the organic foods industry. “My family’s food allergies and dietary restrictions were the catalyst behind starting Edison Grainery,” says Amy Barnes, co-owner of Edison Grainery. “After being diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I have bid farewell to items containing wheat including traditional pasta, cakes, bread and cookies, and I am very proud of the product line we’ve created.” Edison Grainery’s line of certified organic and gluten-free products range from pantry staples to super foods. When Edison Grainery opened last year, they were located in a small 9 ft. by 13 ft. room. The company recently moved into a new 24,000 sq. ft. space dedicated exclusively to warehousing and packing Edison products, as well as co-packaging. Edison Grainery’s high-tech production facilities include three production lines, two of which are free of gluten, wheat, nuts and soy, and the other ‘allergen-tolerant zone’ which processes organic primitive wheat and nuts. The company’s mission is to deliver affordable organic and gluten-free foods to consumers via independent markets and direct Internet sales. “We’re often the ‘first-touch’ after the supplier, so we decided to package the ingredients into user-friendly sizes of 16 ounces, 5 pounds and 25 pound bags,” adds Jeffrey Barnes, co-founder of Edison Grainery. “We are giving direct access to the consumer and our efficiency allows more people to enjoy wonderful, healthy food at an affordable price point.” 8693918936_c749d4a034_o logo in a gray background | 8693918936_c749d4a034_oAll Edison Grainery products are certified:
