Village Super Market’s new ShopRite store in Morristown, N.J., illustrates many of the health and wellness attributes that made the Wakefern Food Corp. cooperative the recipient of SN’s annual Whole Health Enterprise award.

The store, which includes a gym holding free yoga classes twice daily, uses consumer interest in health and wellness as an avenue toward improved service and loyalty. The store also showcases an evolution of foodservice concepts, ranging from better-for-you options to the strictly indulgent.

Merchandise selection reveals an eye for competing concepts, borrowing ideas from restaurants, warehouse clubs, and Wegmans Food Markets, which is reportedly looking to build at a site nearby.
