Building on an already expansive health care offering, Hy-Vee has opened its first Hy-Vee Health infusion clinic in its hometown of West Des Moines, Iowa.

Located at 7300 Westown Parkway, Suite 320, the infusion clinic provides treatments for rheumatology, gastroenterology, pulmonary, neurology, dermatology, oncology and other chronic conditions upon referral, Hy-Vee said Tuesday. Staffed by physicians and nurse practitioners, the freestanding clinic houses three private infusion rooms and five group infusion suites, aimed at giving patients a comfortable setting to receive specialty treatments.

Hy-Vee said it plans to open several more Hy-Vee Health infusion clinics later this year across the country. The West Des Moines clinic operates Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to noon.

“We are proud to open our first Hy-Vee Health infusion clinic as we expand our focus toward providing trusted, high-quality care to infusion patients,” Aaron Wiese, president of Hy-Vee, said in a statement. “As an independent clinic, Hy-Vee Health is an affordable, convenient and accessible option for patients who face chronic and complex conditions. Our vision for Hy-Vee Health is to provide convenient, cost-effective health solutions for patients across the United States.”

The Hy-Vee Health infusion clinic falls under the company’s specialty care operations. Hy-Vee owns and operates two specialty pharmacies, Amber Specialty Pharmacy and Hy-Vee Pharmacy Solutions. Acquired in 2014, Amber specializes in providing personalized care for patients with complex conditions and is licensed in 50 states and has 19 locations nationwide.

Health care is a pillar of Hy-Vee’s strategy, and the company has steadily expanded its array of services. In December 2021, the company unveiled RedBox Rx, a new subsidiary that provides low-cost telehealth and online pharmacy services nationwide. Earlier, in August, the grocer unveiled Hy-Vee Medicare Aisle, an agency offering Medicare coverage plans, and that July, the company appointed Dr. Daniel Fick as chief medical officer, a newly created position. In late 2020, Hy-Vee also launched its own pharmacy benefits manager (PBM), Vivid Clear Rx.

Hy-Vee’s approximately 275 in-store and freestanding pharmacies already provide a full range of pharmacy care, immunization and wellness services. In addition, Hy-Vee has more than 70 in-store retail health clinics and operates its own fleet of mobile health units.

Overall, Hy-Vee operates more than 285 stores in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
