WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Hy-Vee is rolling out “Fast, Fit, Food!” to all 235 stores in eight states this month, according to a Hy-Vee dietitian.
The program, which combines a weekly healthy meals offering with dietary consultation, was tested in the Quad Cities Iowa/Illinois market last year.
Depending upon an individual’s health goals, menus are designed based upon 1,200 or 1,500 calories a day. Food selections are fat, sodium, carbohydrate and nutrient controlled.
For $75, a customer can pick up five days of balanced, portioned meals and snacks tailored to his or her health needs. That’s three meals plus snacks each day for an individual. The prepared bags of groceries are labeled and prepared for eating occasions.
The target is busy people who may want to lose weight and reexamine their relationship with food but don’t want to take the time to plan.
“The mantra is good nutrition doesn’t just happen it has to be planned. Bad nutrition just happens, unfortunately. But planning hangs a lot of people up. We can do the planning for you, and also do the shopping for you, that makes it a lot easier for busy folks,” said Janet Macon, a Hy-Vee dietitian in Davenport, Iowa.
The program also includes a 30-minute session with a Hy-Vee dietitian.
