INDIANAPOLIS — Marsh Supermarkets here on Tuesday said it has rolled out a set of nutritional programs for customers, including a new website and use of the Guiding Stars shelf-labeling system.

The new website, marsh.net/food/myNutrition, will focus on healthy eating and feature advice from dietitian Mary Snell, who joined Marsh in May as director of nutrition and wellness.

In addition to rolling out Guiding Stars, which uses a rating system of from zero to three stars based on a food's nutritional quality, Marsh is also labeling foods with the Easy to Eat Well tags, which identify foods that address specific dietary or lifestyle preferences — including products that are heart healthy, low sodium, organic, gluten free or whole grain.

In addition, Marsh is labeling certain healthy, kid-friendly products as "Project 18 Approved," a reference to an 18-week program at local schools — developed by Peyton Manning Children's Hospital at St. Vincent, Ball State University, and Marsh — that seeks to educate children on nutrition, healthy eating and exercise.

"If we are going to have a sustainable impact on the health of our communities in Indiana, then we need to work with our young people and give them the tools, knowledge, and motivation for a lifetime of healthier living," said Snell in a prepared release.
