Supervalu Adds Produce Managers
re has named five new produce category managers as part of a new initiative to realigned into different marketing regions.
In the northern region, Greg Murphy has been named director of category management, produce. He reports to Larry Langsweirdt, vice president of category management for the region. Murphy was most recently produce products manager for the Minneapolis division of Supervalu and has been with the company since 1989.
Ron Thompson has been named director of category management, produce, for the central region. Thompson, who was most recently general merchandise/produce manager for the Ohio Valley division of Supervalu, reports to Gary Gionnette, vice president of category management for the region. He has been with the company since 1981.
In the southeast region, Tim Meissner has been named director of category management, produce. He served most recently as perishable merchandising manager for the JM Jones division and joined the company in 1983. Meissner reports to Jim Fenzel, vice president of category management for the region.
Don Goodwin has been named director of category management, produce in the northwest region. Goodwin, who has been with Supervalu since 1988, was most recently director of produce in the Tacoma division. He reports to John Aune, vice president of category management for the region.
Mike Witt has been named director of category management, produce for the Midwest region. Most recently director of marketing for the St. Louis division, Witt has been with Supervalu since 1974. He reports to Mark Anderson, vice president of category management for the region.
All the category management positions are new. The company said it made the changes to enhance retail customer service and lower product cost.
