Borstein Resigns From Riser

Riser Foods here said Michael L. Borstein has resigned as executive vice president of the corporation and president of its American Seaway Foods subsidiary.

No full-time successor has been named to the position at American Seaway Foods, which supplies more than 500 customers in northeast and central Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

Borstein had been associated with American Seaway Foods for more than 35 years, the parent company said in a statement. He is leaving to pursue other interests.

Anthony C. Rego, chairman and chief executive officer of Riser, said the "depth of management capabilities within our wholesale group guarantees our customers continuity in the service they have come to expect from American Seaway Foods."

Riser also operates 44 supermarkets, principally under the Rini-Rego Stop-N-Shop format.

Supervalu Appoints Corporate Secretary

MINNEAPOLIS -- Supervalu here has named Teresa H. Johnson corporate secretary, an officer position at the food-distribution and retailing company.

Johnson was deputy general counsel and assistant secretary at Giant Eagle, a Pittsburgh-based supermarket chain, from 1990 until 1993. Prior to that she was assistant general counsel for the chain from 1988 through 1990.

At Supervalu Johnson will be responsible for all legal matters related to the board of directors and securities law compliance. She succeeds Jim Strom, who has left Supervalu to pursue a career in teaching.

Johnson reports to David L. Boehnen, senior vice president of law and external relations.

Rough Plans to Leave Harvest

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Robert Rough, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Harvest Foods here, said he expects to leave the company Feb. 25 to join an investment banking group.

Harvest Foods, with about 55 stores, is seeking a successor to Rough, who has been with the retailer nearly five years.

Rough will join a new investment venture affiliated with Stephens Inc., an investment banking house based here. The new venture plans to raise funds and invest in middle-market companies in the distribution and wholesale business and in consumer product firms, Rough said.

Harvest Foods is the largest grocery retailer in Arkansas, with sales approaching $500 million and about 30% of the state's grocery market share.

Supervalu Unit Taps Marketing VP

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Supervalu division based here has named Larry Langsweirdt vice president of marketing. His new title reflects an expanded leadership role with the division, Supervalu said.

Langsweirdt was director of marketing for the division. In his new position he is responsible for establishing the direction of the division's marketing efforts. The merchandising, retail operations and advertising-communications departments will report to him.

Langsweirdt reports to Gary Zimmerman, president of the division.

The Minneapolis division of Supervalu, the nation's largest wholesale distributor, supplies more than 230 retailers in Minnesota, western Wisconsin and eastern South Dakota.

Ryder Named to Super Rite Board

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- John D. Ryder, president and chief operating officer of the retail supermarket division of Super Rite Corp. here, has been elected to the company's board of directors.

Ryder joined Super Rite in 1990 to oversee its retail division. Super Rite currently operates 22 retail units, including 17 Basics supermarkets in metropolitan Baltimore and Washington, and five Metro superstores in the Baltimore area.
