Stew Leonard's Taps Summa Executive VP
has been named executive vice president and chief financial officer of Stew Leonard's Dairy Stores here.
He succeeds Stephen F. Guthman, executive vice president of finance, who resigned from the company and pleaded guilty to diverting funds in a conspiracy with Stew Leonard Sr. and other corporate executives.
Summa spent 25 years with Kraft General Foods, most recently serving as controller of the food-service division of General Foods USA.
Summa will report to Stew Leonard Jr., president.
Connavino to Head Supervalu Region
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Nicholas A. Connavino has been named president of Supervalu's new Northeastern region unit here.
Connavino will be responsible for the operations and strategic direction of Supervalu's food distribution divisions in Andover, Mass., Keene, N.H., and Maine, which serve 245 customers in New England.
He also will oversee Sweet Life Foods, Suffield, Conn., which serves 280 retailers in New England and eastern New York. Supervalu expects to complete the acquisition of Sweet Life this month.
In his newly created position, Connavino will report to Larry Anderson, executive vice president and regional president of wholesale foods.
Connavino was president of Supervalu's food marketing division in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Succeeding him in that position will be William H. Goodlick, former president of Supervalu's Ohio Valley division. The food marketing division serves over 200 stores in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
Goodlick will report to Phil Dabill, executive vice president and regional president of wholesale foods.
No successor has been named yet to succeed Goodlick in the Ohio Valley division.
Erickson's Appoints President
HUDSON, Wis. -- Steve Erickson has been named president of Erickson's Diversified Corp. here, operator of 17 supermarkets in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
He succeeds his father, Dean M. Erickson, who has taken the new title of chairman.
Steve Erickson was vice president of advertising and director of grocery. No successor has been named to either of those positions.
The 17 supermarkets operate under five names: 10 are called More 4, four are called Erickson's IGA and one each is called Festival Foods, Econo Food and Econo Mart. The company also operates a single pharmacy, called Erickson's Health Mart, and single franchises of Radio Shack and Burger King.
Wetterau's Tannehill Retires
ST. LOUIS -- W. Robert Tannehill, executive vice president of wholesale food distribution at Wetterau Inc., a unit of Supervalu, retired Feb. 28, after 40 years in the food industry.
Tannehill joined Wetterau in 1981, when the wholesaler acquired Fox Grocery Co., Belle Vernon, Pa., which is now the Pittsburgh division of Supervalu.
He served as general manager of Fox from 1969 to 1979; as executive vice president of Fox Industries from 1979 to 1982; as president of Fox Industries from 1982 to 1985, and as senior vice president of Wetterau's food distribution group from 1985 to 1992, when he was named to the position from which he will retire.
