Richfood Taps Chairman, President

Bennett, who was president and chief executive officer, will retain the CEO title. As chairman he succeeds Claude B. Owen Jr., who will remain a member of the board and a member of its executive committee.

Stokely succeeds Bennett as president and Edgar E. Poore as chief operating officer. Poore will retain the title of executive vice president.

Stokely was previously executive vice president of finance and administration. Succeeding him with the title of senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer will be John Marklin, formerly vice president and controller.

Kroger Appoints Division President

ROANOKE, Va. -- Kroger Co., Cincinnati, has named Dave Osborne president of its mid-Atlantic marketing area here.

He succeeds James Thorne, who is now a senior vice president at corporate headquarters. Osborne reports to Thorne.

Osborne previously was vice president of operations at Kroger's Columbus marketing area, based in Westerville, Ohio. He has been with the company since 1960.

Dillon Names Corporate VP

HUTCHINSON, Kan. -- Dillon Cos. here has named E. John Burgon corporate vice president of the company, which is a subsidiary of Kroger Co., Cincinnati.

Burgon had been executive vice president of Dillon-owned Fry's Food Stores, Phoenix, for the last nine years. No successor has been named at Fry's.

Burgon succeeds Warren Bryant, who held the title senior vice president. As reported, Bryant was named president of Dillon Cos., effective Sunday.

In his new post, Burgon will be responsible for overseeing four Dillon supermarket divisions: Fry's in Arizona; Dillon Stores in Kansas; Dillon Stores in Missouri, and City Market in Colorado.

Bryant will continue to oversee Dillon's Denver-based King Soopers division. Burgon will report to Bryant.

Safeway Creates New Position

LANHAM, Md. -- Safeway, Oakland, Calif., has named Glenn E. Davis chief administrative and financial officer of its 125-store Eastern division here, a new position.

He is responsible for accounting, information technology, industrial engineering and security issues. He reports to Jim Donald, senior vice president and division manager.

Before joining Safeway, Davis was vice president, controller and assistant treasurer at mass merchandiser Bradlees, Braintree, Mass. Prior to that, he was corporate controller at Bradlees' former parent company, Stop & Shop Cos., Quincy, Mass.

Food Lion Names Diversity Director

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Food Lion here has named Natalie Taylor director of diversity planning, a new position.

She is responsible for community affairs and employee relations, among other matters. Taylor reports to Gene McKinley, vice president of human resources.

Taylor has been with Food Lion since 1983, most recently as director of community affairs and employee development.
