Covington Leaves Supervalu for Logistics Firm
week Alec C. Covington, Supervalu executive vice president as well as president and chief operating officer of Supervalu's food distribution companies division, will be leaving the company. Covington has been named president and chief executive officer, AmeriCold Logistics, Atlanta, effective May 1, 2001. Jeff Noddle, Supervalu president and chief operating officer, said that the company will name a successor to Covington shortly.
Supervalu has also named Joe Della Noce to the newly created position of executive vice president, market support services for the company's Richmond, Va.-based Eastern region. Della Noce previously served as the Eastern region's executive vice president, sales and business development.
The company also announced the appointment of Richard Lane to the newly created position of executive vice president, supply chain. Lane comes to Supervalu from Ameriserve, Wichita, Kan., where he was responsible for domestic and international operations of that company's casual dining restaurants.
Ahold Names New Auditor
ZANDAAM, The Netherlands -- Ahold here said it has named Thijs Smit senior vice president, internal audit. Smit, who has been working for the internal audit department since August, succeeds Paul Ekelschot, who has been appointed senior vice president, financial services.
Ahold also said Frank Rijksen has been appointed chief financial officer, Ahold Polska, effective April 24. Rijksen currently is CFO at Etos Group in The Netherlands, an Ahold company. In his new function he reports to Jacquot Boelen, CEO Ahold Polska.
Sjoerd Schaafsma succeeds Rijksen at Etos Group, effective April 23. He is currently Ahold corporate controller for Latin America. In his new position Schaafsma reports to John van der Ent, CEO Etos Group.
