ECR Europe Names Co-Chairs

BARCELONA, Spain -- The executive board of ECR Europe named two co-chairs of the Efficient Consumer Response movement. Sir Terry Leahy, chief executive officer of Tesco Stores, and Franck Riboud, chairman and CEO of Groupe Danone, will assume their positions in a formal handover at the 2002 ECR Europe Conference and Marketplace here on April 22 to 24.

The co-chairs succeed Anthony Burgmans, CEO, Unilever, and Luc Vandevelde, chairman and CEO, Marks & Spencer. The outgoing chairs held their position for three years and are retiring from the board. They will pass the torch in their speech opening the plenary session of the conference. Leahy and Riboud will accept responsibility in a speech they will give closing the conference on April 24.

Leahy received a knighthood earlier this year for services to food retailing. Prior to his current position, he served as marketing executive for Tesco from 1979 until his appointment as CEO in March 1997.

Riboud joined the BSN group in 1982, working in most of the group's divisions before being appointed chairman and CEO of Groupe Danone in May 1996.
