GROSS BECOMES PRESIDENT OF GU MARKETS

was named president of GU Markets here last week, announced Rick Cohen, chairman of the company. Gross was executive vice president of GU Markets since 2001. He will be responsible for all aspects of the operations and will report to Ed Albertian, chief executive officer. Gross will continue to be the executive vice president, chief financial officer and general counsel of C&S Wholesale Grocers, Brattleboro, Vt., an affiliate of GU Markets.

KROGER NAMES COORDINATOR OF SUPPLIER DIVERSITY

CINCINNATI -- The Kroger Co. here named Denise Thomas coordinator of corporate supplier diversity, a newly created position. She will be responsible for managing Kroger's supplier diversity program. The program is geared toward fostering the promotion, growth and development of minority-owned business enterprises and women-owned businesses.

Prior to her promotion, Thomas served as the manager of a Kroger store in Novi, Mich. She has been with the company for close to thirty years.

IGA ELECTS TWO FLEMING EXECS TO ITS BOARDS

CHICAGO -- IGA here announced that two executives from Fleming Cos. were elected to IGA Boards. Archie Dykes and Jim Thatcher assumed directorships of their respective boards on March 9. Fleming is the largest licensed distributor to IGA stores in the United States.

Archie Dykes, Fleming's non-executive chairman, joined the board of IGA Inc., the holding company of IGA International and IGA USA.

Thatcher, president of Fleming IGA, was appointed to the IGA board that governs operations within the United States. Prior to being appointed to his current position, he was Fleming's retail president of Southern operations and group vice president of sales and marketing.

PENN TRAFFIC APPOINTS NEW VP, SALES AND MARKETING

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Penn Traffic Co. here appointed Terry Kushner vice president of sales and marketing. He succeeds John Martynski, who left the company.

Kushner will be responsible for all marketing and advertising activities, including print and electronic media, point-of-sale communications and targeted marketing, for the company.

RITE AID'S SAMMONS APPOINTED PRESIDENT, CEO

CAMP HILL, Pa. -- Rite Aid here said last week that Mary Sammons, president and chief operating officer, will become president and chief executive officer on June 25. Bob Miller, currently Rite Aid's chairman and chief executive officer, will retain the position of chairman.

Sammons will assume the CEO position at the company's annual stockholder meeting. Miller will remain as chairman until his term on the Rite Aid Board of Directors ends at the company's annual meeting in June 2005. At that time. a decision will be made regarding his standing for re-election to the board.

Miller and Sammons both came to Rite Aid in December 1999 as part of a new executive team hired to develop and execute a turnaround plan for the company.
