WINN-DIXIE'S CLERC RETIRES AFTER FOUR DECADES

president of public relations for Winn-Dixie here, retired on June 25 after 42 years with the company. He will maintain a role as a consultant to the chain. Clerc first joined the company as assistant advertising director in the Jacksonville division. He held various positions, including vice president of advertising and director of advertising at the corporate headquarters, and other positions in Winn-Dixie's Louisville and Miami divisions. Prior to joining Winn-Dixie, Clerc was a newspaper reporter, a broadcast announcer and copywriter, and an advertising assistant manager. Kathy Lussier, the company's director of public relations and promotions, will assume Clerc's duties.

ARCENEAUX JOINS AFFILIATED FOODS SOUTHWEST

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Affiliated Foods Southwest here has named Randy Arceneaux general manager of its southern division. He most recently was director of the Lafayette, La., division of Fleming Cos., Dallas. The Lafayette division is one of several that Fleming is closing as it pares down its operations under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Affiliated is a wholesaling cooperative and serves about 450 supermarkets in a seven-state region.

THORNE, EXECUTIVE VP AT KROGER, TO LEAVE COMPANY

CINCINNATI -- Kroger Co. here announced that James Thorne, senior vice president, plans to retire later this year. He has been with the company 37 years. A successor will be named when Thorne retires. Thorne has served in a number of positions for Kroger, including president of its Mid-Atlantic division and a variety of management positions in advertising, store management, retail operations and merchandising. He has been vice president of the company since 1993.
