BAKER SUCCEEDS BROWN AS STATER BROS. PRESIDENT

e said Don Baker has been named president and chief operating officer, effective immediately. Jack Brown, who is 65, will continue as chairman and chief executive officer, but will give up the title of president. He said he plans to spend more of his time dealing with the construction of the chain's new corporate offices and distribution center in San Bernardino, while Baker will be responsible for day-to-day operations. Baker, 63, has been Stater's executive vice president and COO since 2001. He joined Stater in 1983 as vice president of warehousing and transportation. Prior to joining Stater Bros., Baker spent 11 years at Hinky Dinky Markets, Omaha, Neb. -- which was headed for a time by Brown -- and before that he worked for Kroger, Cincinnati.

SUPERVALU NAMES PELLEGRIN TO MANAGE MERGERS

MINNEAPOLIS -- Supervalu here said it has named Anthony Pellegrin vice president, corporate development, a newly created position. He has responsibility for managing Supervalu's merger, acquisition and divestiture activity. He reports to David Boehnen, Supervalu executive vice president. Pellegrin, 36, most recently was general counsel for the sensing and control division at Honeywell International, Morristown, N.J. Prior to that, he was director of corporate development at Federated Direct/Fingerhut Cos., where he had responsibility for due diligence, negotiation and drafting for mergers, acquisitions and other strategic transactions.
