GRIZE TO RESIGN FROM AHOLD EXECUTIVE BOARD

esident and chief executive officer of Ahold USA Retail, will step down from Ahold's corporate executive board here at the end of December in preparation for his retirement, Ahold said last week. Beginning in January, Marc Smith, president and CEO, Stop & Shop/Giant-Landover, and Tony Schiano, CEO, Giant-Carlisle/Tops, will report directly to Anders Moberg, president and CEO of Ahold. Grize joined Stop & Shop nearly 40 years ago as a part-timer, and rose through the ranks to become president of Stop & Shop in 1997. In 2000, he became president and CEO of Ahold USA and joined Ahold's corporate executive board in 2001. "With organizational changes within Ahold's U.S. retail operations on track and with Ahold well on the road to recovery, it's a logical time for me to begin my transition to retirement," Grize said.

NEWSON NAMED WINN-DIXIE REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie here has appointed Chuck Newson to vice president of the Central region. In his new position, he is responsible for retail operations of all the stores in that region, which includes parts of Florida, Alabama and Georgia. Newson now reports to the group vice president of operations, Mark Sellers. He was most recently a senior group president at Eckerd, Clearwater, Fla. Prior to that, he was senior vice president at Pueblo International Carolina, Puerto Rico. In the past 36 years, Newson has worked at ShopRite, A&P, Riser Foods and Kroger. Newson succeeds Brad Spooner, who was recently named vice president, strategic initiatives, a new position. Spooner will now be responsible for improving Winn-Dixie's competitive position and operational performance.

PRICE CHOPPER TAPS STANTON FOR NEW MERCHANDISING POST

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Golub Corp./Price Chopper here said it has named Nancy Stanton vice president of merchandising strategy, a newly created position. Stanton will be responsible for the merchandising strategy as it relates to pricing and merchandise planning for the 106-store chain. She will also lead the corporation's revenue management initiative. She will report to Larry Zettle, executive vice president and chief operating officer. Previously, Stanton was director of merchandising planning at Meijer Stores, Grand Rapids, Mich.

PUBLIX APPOINTS TWO SENIOR VICE PRESIDENTS

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Publix Super Markets here has named two new senior vice presidents. John Attaway has been promoted to senior vice president and general counsel, and John Hrabusa has been promoted to senior vice president, both effective Jan. 1, 2005. In addition to his current responsibilities as general counsel and secretary, Attaway will now be responsible for risk management and internal audit. Prior to being general counsel and secretary for Publix, he was with the law firm Lane Trohn , Lakeland, Fla. As senior vice president, Hrabusa will take on the responsibility of public affairs in addition to his current responsibilities in human resources. Previously, Hrabusa held human resources positions with Office Depot, Delray Beach, Fla., and Sherwin Williams, Cleveland.
