In his newly created vice president position, Desmond will oversee all of Supervalu's real-estate functions, including store development, store design and construction, project management and facility maintenance. He will report to David Boehnen, executive vice president, Supervalu. Desmond most recently had been director of real estate with Wal-Mart Stores, Bentonville, Ark., and before that he spent 13 years with Kmart, Troy, Mich.
BIG Y PROMOTES KILLIAN TO LABOR PLANNING POST
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Big Y Foods here has appointed Jim Killian as director of labor planning. In his new position, Killian will oversee development and maintenance of the 52-store supermarket chain's labor scheduling system. He joined Big Y in 1997 as a bakery merchandiser/trainer, and joined the labor planning department as a supervisor in 2000. He was promoted to manager of labor planning in 2001. Killian, as director of labor planning, will continue to report to Dave Brunelle, vice president of store operations, Big Y.
FMI SELECTS ROERINK TO BE DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH
WASHINGTON -- Food Marketing Institute here last week said it named Anne-Marie Roerink director of research. She succeeds Debbie Gann, who recently left the organization to pursue other interests after joining FMI in May. Roerink will be responsible for overseeing FMI's research strategy through various projects, programs and studies that analyze industry data on consumer trends, food retail and wholesale operations, and other issues. She reports to Michael Sansolo, senior vice president, FMI. Before joining FMI, Roerink was director of marketing and research at the American Society of Travel Agents.
