TOBIN, FAHLIN TO LEAVE AHOLD SUPERVISORY BOARD

st week Robert Tobin -- who at various times was chairman, president and chief executive officer of Ahold USA, Chantilly, Va., and prior to that was president and CEO of Stop & Shop, Ahold's Quincy, Mass.-based subsidiary -- will leave the company's supervisory board in June. Ahold said Tobin, along with fellow board member, Roland Fahlin, were leaving because they no longer met the independence criteria of the company's new corporate governance rules "because of their previous employment with affiliates of Ahold." Until November, Tobin was also interim CEO of Ahold's troubled subsidiary, U.S. Foodservice, Columbia, Md.; he remains an internal member of USF's advisory board.

WEIS PROMOTES JONATHAN WEIS TO VICE CHAIRMAN

SUNBURY, Pa. -- Weis Markets here said last week it has promoted Jonathan Weis, previously the company's vice president and secretary, to vice chairman. Weis is the son of Robert Weis, the company's chairman, and the grandson of the late Harry Weis, who co-founded the company in 1912. Jonathan Weis, who joined the company in 1995, has worked in store operations, produce merchandising, grocery procurement and, in his previous position, real estate.

NASH FINCH NAMES PATITUCCI EVP, MERCHANDISING

MINNEAPOLIS -- Nash Finch Co. here said it has named James Patitucci executive vice president, merchandising and marketing. Patitucci most recently was president of Grocery Outlet, Oakland, Calif. Previously, he had been senior vice president of sales and marketing for Ralphs Grocery Co., Los Angeles. Nash Finch is a grocery wholesaler and retailer, operating more than 100 stores in the upper Midwest.

SMART & FINAL NAMES CASINO EXECUTIVE TO BOARD

LOS ANGELES -- Smart & Final here said it has appointed Jean-Brice Hernu to its board. He succeeds Antoine Guichard, who has retired from the board and has been named director emeritus. Hernu is deputy managing director for the France-based Casino Guichard-Perrachon, a multi-format international retailer and 58.8% shareholder in Smart & Final.

FORMER WHOLESALING EXECUTIVE MAY JOINS LIMITED TOO

NEW ALBANY, Ohio -- Former grocery wholesaling executive William E. May was named executive vice president and chief operating officer of Limited Too here. He was president and chief executive officer for the wholesale division of Fleming Cos., Dallas, and held leadership positions with Certified Grocers Midwest, Hodgkins, Ill.; Spartan Stores, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and Nash Finch Co., Minneapolis. He will be in charge of human resources, real estate, information technology, logistics and finance activities.
