ATLANTA -- Kroger Co.'s division here gave a plug to the agricultural product of Georgia's southern neighbor while touting the benefits of citrus fruits in a full-page ad promoting Florida orange and grapefruit juice.

In a health-oriented message to consumers, which tied in Tropicana-brand products and Florida produce, Kroger extolled the benefits of drinking the vitamin C-filled juices.

The copy read: "Over 500 medical studies -- well over 100 on vitamin C alone -- point to one conclusion: The vitamins and nutrients in orange juice and grapefruit juice can play an important role in maintaining good health. Orange juice and grapefruit juice are also sodium-free, fat-free and cholesterol-free."

The ad also told consumers that 100% Florida orange juice is a good source of vitamin C, which is "vital for healthy skin, bones and gums." It also contains folate, which "helps prevent anemia," and potassium, which "regulates heart rhythm."

Kroger officials could not be reached for comment.
