Harris Teeter Together in Education Launches ‘We Think GREEN’ Contest for Fourth Year
January 1, 2018
Harris Teeter Together in Education (TIE) launched its fourth “We Think GREEN” contest on Feb. 1. The “We Think GREEN” contest is open to all schools participating in the TIE program, and it encourages children as well as their families to recycle plastic shopping bags in an attempt to earn cash for their school. Harris Teeter has a responsibility to act as a good corporate citizen and has instituted multiple recycling programs into its day-to-day operations. Just last year, Harris Teeter recycled 2,419,682 pounds of plastic, and through this contest, the company hopes school children will take an interest in recycling and embrace the commitment to a sustainable future. Participating schools are encouraged to collect and recycling plastic shopping bags at any Harris Teeter location. Bags from any store are accepted in this contest, not only Harris Teeter shopping bags. Each school will fill 30 gallon plastic bags with the individual bags collected. Every 30 gallon plastic bag will equal one bin. The schools will turn in their bins to a Harris Teeter manager who will track each school’s participation until March 27, when the contest ends. The five schools which collect the most bins in each of Harris Teeter’s three regions – Northern, Central and Southern, will win.
1st place will receive $1,000.
2nd place will receive $500.
3rd, 4th and 5th place will each receive $250.
