JUDGE ORDERS UNION TO PAY PUBLIX

WASHINGTON -- Publix Super Markets, Lakeland, Fla., said last week a U.S. District Court judge here has ordered the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union to pay attorneys' fees to the chain. The fees, which the chain said could total $10,000, would compensate the chain's attorneys for time spent in court trying to get the union to yield a group of documents that are part of a sex-discrimination lawsuit filed last year by the union against Publix. UFCW officials could not be reached for comment last week.
