The initial reporting on the Kroger, Albertsons merger steamrolled to the top of our first ever "Supermarket News Top News Tournament" — a bracket-style tournament in which you, the audience, voted week to week as to which news story you considered the biggest story of the year.

In our final LinkedIn poll, you voted for the Kroger merger story over a story about Aldi expanding in the U.S. hands down: 84% to 16%.

Our first annual news tournament received thousands of votes, and the winner of our $100 Amazon gift card raffle was digital creator Matt Sanderson.

Supermarket News has provided extensive coverage of the merger deal. Looking for more on the merger? Check these stories out:

We all wait to see if the FTC will approve the merger. Look for the latest on the deal at www.supermarketnews.com and look for updates on our Instagram page as well. Thanks for reading!
