Cincinnati-based The Kroger Co. announced June 8 the addition of a new "spoke" facility in Miami, Fla., and that Kroger Delivery is now available in South Florida.

The grocery retailer said the 60,000-square-foot facility will employ up to 200 associates and will collaborate with the fulfillment hub in Groveland, Fla., and serve as a last-mile cross-dock location allowing the fulfillment network to reach customers in South Florida.

"We're thrilled to introduce customers to Kroger Delivery in South Florida," said Andrea Colby, Kroger’s e-commerce corporate affairs and communications manager, in a statement. "We offer customers a more convenient option to access fresh food and grocery items. Kroger Delivery is an easy, seamless way to order groceries, have them arrive in refrigerated vans, delivered to your door by professional, uniformed associates all based on your demanding schedule."

James Kohnstamm, EVP of the Miami-Dade Beacon Council, said the new center will bring jobs to Opa Locka and adjacent communities. “This state-of-the-art facility is another example of how two of our key industries—trade and logistics, and technology—intersect to deliver, innovative seamless solutions that support business growth," he said. "The strength of our ecosystem coupled with the infrastructure to support the needs of on-demand grocery delivery make Miami-Dade a natural fit for Kroger's expanding e-commerce delivery service."

Kroger said the facility has job opportunities with roles in logistics, human resources and transportation to support the expansion in South Florida, and that customers can enjoy $15 off the first three orders with a digital coupon.

Kroger, which last month announced the addition of a "spoke" facility in Central Ohio, said it is continuing to provide its anything, anywhere, anytime offerings.
