To assist food banks battling a lack of fresh milk, Kroger Co. banners will allow customers to purchase milk voucher donations at checkout during the month of September.
As part of the retailer’s “Pour It Forward” campaign, customers can donate $1, $3 or $5. Donations will go to local food banks affiliated with Feeding America, which will give out coupons for free milk.
For this fundraiser, Kroger has partnered with the Great American Milk Drive and Feeding America as part of Hunger Action Month.
"Kroger customers and associates have always embraced opportunities to help their neighbors in need," Lynn Marmer, Kroger's group VP of corporate affairs, said in a statement. "Through our 'Pour It Forward' campaign, we are adding a new way for our customers, associates and company to support local food banks by offering them access to an important food — fresh and wholesome milk."
According to Kroger’s announcement, milk is one of the most requested but least donated items at food banks.
