GREENVILLE, Miss. -- Services have been held here for Morris Lewis Jr., a leader in the grocery industry for more than 40 years and one-time chairman of Supervalu, Minneapolis.

esident of both Lewis Grocer and its retail business, Sunflower Food Stores. Lewis also was chairman of Lewis Grocer from 1970 to 1976.

Lewis Grocer grew from annual sales of $3 million to nearly $38 million in 1965, when it was acquired by Supervalu. Lewis became a director of Supervalu after the acquisition, and he and his brother, Celian H. Lewis, also were named vice presidents. Later he was named chairman of the wholesaler.

In addition to Celian, Lewis is survived by his son, Morris Lewis 3rd, and daughter, Julia Lewis Miller, five grandsons and three great-grandsons.
