John Tavolieri has been tapped to helm Nielsen’s U.S. Buy organization as its new president.

In his new role, Tavolieri, a 20-year consumer goods industry veteran, will lead Nielsen’s FMCG and retail commercial teams and will be accountable for all U.S. initiatives. He will continue to serve as chief technology and operations officer, bringing an accelerated drive for technology enablement and improved efficiencies throughout Nielsen’s global business.

In his dual role, Tavolieri will help to digitize data collection processes and drive platform convergence to further Nielsen’s momentum in measuring the Total Consumer and propel the launch of the Connected System.

“This is an exciting time of transformation for Nielsen where technology is front and center,” Tavolieri said in a statement. “We are accelerating our investments in innovations like the Connected System, and integrating a suite of tools to handle everything from e-collection to field management to dashboarding on a global scale—enabling us to execute and deliver on the commitments we’ve made to the industry, faster than ever before. Fueled by artificial intelligence, machine learning and image recognition,” Tavolieri said the transformation will enable Nielsen to evolve “globally to a software and data-as-a-service model, allowing our clients to operate fast, lean and accurately within the U.S. and around the world.”

Through this new vision of a more nimble and tech-infused U.S. Buy organization, Nielsen is working towards a fully digitized and connected data ecosystem.”

Previous to his current role, Tavolieri served as Nielsen’s EVP of global operations as well as the commercial leader in Western Europe, where he led client engagement across 16 countries. He is presently based in Nielsen's Global Technology and Innovation Center in Tampa, Fla.
