OBITUARY: THOMAS FARNHAM JAMES

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- A memorial service was held here last month in remembrance of Thomas Farnham James, who died at the age of 88.

ompanies such as Supervalu, Nash Finch, Red Owl and Fairway Foods. He proceeded to develop the first line of discount stores for Sam and Helen Walton, also in Little Rock. James is noted for developing a number of supermarkets across Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma for a variety of companies, including Fleming, Kroger and Affiliated Food Stores, as well as co-operating a chain of grocery stores in central Missouri with his partner Harold Nicholas.

James is survived by his wife Frances, a brother, five children, 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
