CHICAGO -- Richfood and the Tacoma, Wash., division of Supervalu have received the 1994 IGA President's Cup award.
f Supervalu, a Minneapolis-based food distribution and retail company, was honored for greatest IGA development.
IGA, based here, is a voluntary supermarket network. The President's Cup is the highest honor IGA bestows upon its authorized distribution centers.
The winners were announced at the annual IGA Executives' Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Richfood's facility in Richmond, one of 73 distribution centers servicing nearly 4,000 IGA stores worldwide, excelled in all 11 categories the judges considered. The categories included total retail sales, retail sales per square foot, number of IGA brand products offered and support of IGA's Hometown Proud community programs.
William Stocker, senior vice president of marketing, accepted the award on behalf of Richfood.
The Tacoma division of Supervalu scored high in the nine areas considered for the greatest development award. The areas included: number of IGA supermarkets added and increase in total IGA retail square footage.
Mike Jackson, president and chief executive officer of the Tacoma division, accepted the award.
