ShopRite Supermarkets Partners with Senior Services of Albany to Launch Free Shuttle Service

ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc., which operates 32 ShopRite stores in New York and New Jersey, announced that it has partnered with Senior Services of Albany to launch a free, daily supermarket shuttle service providing roundtrip transportation for local seniors 60 years of age and older to its ShopRite of Albany store location. The ShopRite Shuttle service will safely transport local seniors to the grocery store allowing them to get the items they need to continue living independently in the comfort of their own homes. “We recognize that there is a growing population in the senior community. Making sure that all people have access to fresh, wholesome food is something that we take personally,” says Tom Urtz, vice president of human resources and community affairs, ShopRite Supermarkets. "Our partnership with Senior Services of Albany will provide area seniors with safe, reliable, round-trip shuttle service to and from ShopRite all year.  We are pleased we could support Senior Services of Albany to help make this vital program a reality." “Our partnership with ShopRite is important to Senior Services of Albany and the people we serve,” says Donna Vancavage, director of development, Senior Services of Albany.  “This partnership enables us to continue to provide our community with important aging related services in a time of growing need and limited financial resources.” Senior Services of Albany has been providing transportation services to elderly residents in the City of Albany for over 40 years.  This personal service provides medical transport, as well as transportation to grocery stores, area senior centers, congregate senior dining locations and more. Additionally, transportation is available to senior groups for trips to the supermarket, special activities such as the theatre or special events within a 60-mile radius in the Capital Region.  Senior Services of Albany's transportation service provides a vital link for the elderly to help them maintain an independent lifestyle. The elderly are able to access activities outside their homes and, get to the places they need to go.
