SN Top 10: Kroger, Walmart, Dollar Tree top the week's headlines

In this week’s recap of the Top 10 most popular Supermarket News articles, the top story was six Kroger stores receive related bomb threats. Five Kroger stores in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky were evacuated on Saturday due to reported bomb threats, according to officials. Those store locations included Newport, Bellevue, Oakley, Cold Spring, and Erlanger, all of which received reported bomb threats. Customers and employees were all evacuated and told to wait outside while the police cleared each store. A sixth Kroger grocery store in Cincinnati was also evacuated a day later after police say the store also received a similar threat.

In other news, The Dollar Tree may be following in the footsteps of a group of retailers in a fight to prevent store theft. In a post-earnings call with analysts, Dollar Tree Chief Financial Officer Jeff Davis said the company may be instituting what they call “defensive merchandising” to discourage theft, according to reporting by the U.S. Sun.
