Supervalu Names Irland President of Newell

Supervalu has appointed Steve Irland as president of its W. Newell produce-distribution company.

MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu here on Wednesday said that it had appointed Steve Irland as president of its W. Newell produce-distribution company effective Nov. 1. He succeeds Greg McNiff, who is now the senior vice president of operations in Supervalu's Albertsons Southern California division.

Bob Cisler, Midwest/Southeast region vice president of merchandising, served as W. Newell president in the interim while the search was underway.

Irland most recently was vice president of banner marketing for Supervalu and has been with the company for more than 20 years. In his new role, he will be responsible for overseeing all of W. Newell's operations and will report to Janel Haugarth, executive vice president and president and chief operating officer, supply chain services.

"Steve's experience in operations, marketing, sales and advertising underscores his ability to understand our customers and to deliver results that move the business forward, making him an excellent fit to lead W. Newell," Haugarth said in a statement.
