ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans’ Special Blends is a new line of private-label frozen mixed vegetables, flash-frozen with less than two hours between harvest and processing, according to the retailer.

Varieties include Broccoli, Cauliflower and Pine Nuts in an olive oil, garlic and herb sauce; Grilled Vegetables including fire-roasted eggplant, zucchini, peppers and onions; and Wild Brown and Red Rice with carrots, scallions and parsley. Each 1-pound bag costs $3.99.

“We picked the most popular mixtures from our Chef’s Case in our Prepared Foods Department, and from Wegmans Menu magazine pages and worked with the Contessa Premium Foods Co. to replicate the flavors,” said Mary Ellen Burris, senior vice president of consumer affairs, in her latest column.
