ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans Food Markets is taking its holiday seafood demos beyond in-store meal stations to the classroom where shoppers can ask questions, learn pan-searing techniques and other difficult-to-master skills.

"Shrimp and Pancetta with Polenta" and "Stuffed Calamari with Parmesan Creamed Spinach" will be featured as part of the “Seafood at the Holidays” classes led by culinary team members at eight Wegmans stores in western New York. Teachers will explain each step as they prepare the meals. As the dishes are finished, they’ll be served along with pairings of wine or beer.

A ninth store in Erie, Pa., will feature "Scallops with Bouillabaisse" and "Pan-Seared Chicken with Apple Maple Gravy" during “Pan Searing Simplified!” classes.

Tickets for both events are $20 per person ($15 with a Shoppers Club Card) and can be purchased at the service desk of each store.

“These new cooking demonstration classes offer customers something that goes well beyond what they see at meal coach stations in the store,” said Angela Volta, Wegmans Menu Cooking School manager, in a statement. “There’s lots of one-on-one interaction between customers and the culinary team, so everybody’s questions get answered. Also, customers can see how they might pair the meal with a glass of wine or beer.”
