ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans Food Markets uses paper from timber that’s been grown and harvested under the Forest Stewardship Council's environmental standards for millions of marketing materials printed weekly.

Wegmans’ printer, Creps United Publications, Indiana, Pa., is also FSC-certified.

“They are doing all they can to reduce waste, energy and water useage, and emissions while promoting recycling,” said Mary Ellen Burris, senior vice president of consumer affairs, in her column. “They’re using soy-based inks (instead of solvent-based ones) that lower the amount of volatile organic compounds released into the environment by the heat of drying.”

The FSC label is printed on the back of Wegmans’ ads, its Menu magazine and coupon books.
