AUSTIN, Texas — Whole Foods Market is promoting the fact that one of its own lives in Alaska for the summer to ensure that the best salmon is carried in its stores.

"Our port buyer lives in Alaska all summer to be on site when each salmon fishery opens for the season," Whole Foods writes on its website.

The buyer, Keith Harris, spends four months in the state to assess the color, texture and taste of the fish. "He works with the processors to ensure that quality is represented in every fish we ship to our stores," the release states.

No other supermarket has someone on site overseeing standards for the quality of their wild Alaska salmon selection, according to Whole Foods. The retailer has posted a video blog on its Web site, www.wholefoods.com, showing Harris in action in Alaska.
