HARTLAND, Wis. — Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly has agreed to acquire four corporate-owned Piggly Wiggly stores from its franchiser, Piggly Wiggly Midwest.
Terms of the agreement, which is expected to close late next month, were not disclosed. The sale continues Piggly Wiggly Midwest's move to convert its corporate-owned stores into franchise operations. Following the sale, 89 of the 102 grocery stores in Wisconsin and Illinois supplied by Piggly Wiggly Midwest will be franchised stores.
Pat Fox, owner of Fox Bros., told SN Monday that the acquired stores would take on a more local feel, particularly as Fox adds proprietary fresh offerings including its own bratwurst, summer sausage and cheeses available at its existing stores in Hartland and Oconomowoc.
