BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Houchens Industries has added Sheldon’s Express Pharmacies, a two-unit retail pharmacy based here, to its roster of diversified companies, it was announced yesterday. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The Sheldon’s units are described as state-of-the- art prescription drug stores that deliver quick service, extremely competitive pricing, and friendly service to their loyal customers.

Sheldon’s Express Pharmacy will retain its name, employees, and management team, according to Houchens.

“Houchens and Sheldon’s both have an interest in expansion and establishing a regional presence. I will continue to stay involved in managing the existing pharmacies,” stated Steve Sheldon, president of Sheldon’s Express Pharmacies, in a press release.

Houchens is a 100% employee-owned holding company with 170 conventional supermarkets under multiple brand names; 215 Save-A-Lot stores; and 85 convenience stores. SN estimates that Houchens had sales of about $2.5 billion in 2008.
