WinCo Makes Spokane Debut, Eyes Utah

WinCo Foods said it opened its first store in Spokane, Wash., yesterday, with plans for a second Spokane-area store scheduled for the spring.

BOISE, Idaho — WinCo Foods here said it opened its first store in Spokane, Wash., yesterday, with plans for a second Spokane-area store scheduled for the spring. The company said the new store is 94,000 square feet. WinCo also said it is building a fourth distribution center here, which industry sources said will facilitate the company's expected expansion into Utah.

The company, which is employee-owned, operates 65 stores in Washington, Idaho, Nevada, California and Oregon, plus three distribution centers: grocery and perishables facilities in Woodburn, Ore. (near Portland), and in Modesto, Calif., and a nonfoods warehouse in Myrtle Creek, Ore.
