WASHINGTON -- The American Meat Institute Foundation and Kansas State University have agreed to work together to resolve beef industry issues through a coordinated program of research, education and information.

As part of the alliance, James L. Marsden, president and senior scientific adviser of the foundation, the research arm of the American Meat Institute, has been appointed Regents Distinguished Professor of Meat Science in the university's Department of Animal Sciences and Industry.

Marsden will serve as the liaison between the two organizations.

Also, Marsden will lead a new AMIF "Beef Safety Research Initiative" to respond specifically to the industry's need for technology to prevent E. coli 0157:H7 bacteria in the food supply.
