UNITED FRESH DONATES 33 SALAD BARS

WASHINGTON — The United Fresh Foundation has announced that it will donate salad bars to 33 schools next month, when the United Fresh Produce Association hosts its 107th annual convention in New Orleans, May 2-4. “These salad bars reflect our members' commitment to help increase access to fresh fruit and vegetables for thousands of New Orleans school kids. This is a great way for our industry to show our support to the local community, and say ‘thank you’ for hosting our 2011 convention,” United Fresh President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Stenzel said in an announcement. The Foundation will commemorate the donation with a May 3 “Let's Move Salad Bars to New Orleans Schools” press event bringing together local dignitaries and officials to recognize the 33 recipient schools and each donor company.

CERTIFIED ANGUS OPENS POP-UP STORE

NEW YORK — The Certified Angus Beef brand has partnered with the James Beard Foundation to launch its first pop-up store and restaurant here in Manhattan's Chelsea Market. The temporary store features a butcher shop as well as lunch and dinner menus, and also serves an educational purpose. Visitors are greeted by family ranchers who raise Certified Angus beef, and events including a “Cowboys and Cleavers” program on the weekend of April 15 and 16 explained how beef makes it from the ranch to the table. During the five weeks that the store is open, the shop will feature specials on premium cuts: Prime tenderloin on Tuesdays and Thursdays, dry-aged T-bone Wednesdays, Natural bone-in cowboy steaks on Fridays, and Prime strip steaks on weekends. Every 21st customer receives a free steak. In addition to an upscale food court and mall, Chelsea Market houses production offices for the Food Network, the Oxygen Network, local news network New York One, and Google.
