Aldi US has opened a new store in the Bronx, giving residents of the New York City upper borough another location to shop.

Situated at 845 White Plains Rd., the new Aldi opened its doors on Thursday and marks the Batavia, Illinois-based chain's fourth Bronx location. Overall, the grocer has 10 stores in New York City, including in four of the metropolis' five boroughs: Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx (excluding Staten Island).

“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier, and we’ve been voted the price leader for six years running,” said Chris Daniels, South Windsor regional vice president for Aldi, in a statement. “We have served this community for more than 12 years and are excited to continue to offer Bronx residents an affordable way of shopping.”

In May, Aldi—which frequently opens multiple new stores per week—revealed plans to add 120 new locations in 2023, which would raise the grocer’s store count to more than 2,400 nationwide by the end of the year. To date, Aldi operates 2,336 stores in 38 states and the District of Columbia, according to the company's website.

Driving Aldi's aggressive expansion is a strong consumer affinity for value-focused grocers, especially amid the recent period of elevated food prices. On that front, Aldi on Wednesday unveiled savings for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, boosting competition with rival Walmart, which also announced price cuts on products for the Thanksgiving holiday meal.

Aldi President Dave Rinaldo said in a statement that with inflation “still looming, we're providing shoppers extra relief to make the holidays a time for celebration, not stress.”

Starting Nov. 1, the Thanksgiving price reductions will bring savings of up to 50% on items across the store, Aldi said.
