Cardenas Markets parent names Ted Frumkin SVP
Frumkin, a grocery veteran, will focus on real estate growth and development for Heritage Grocers Group.
The parent company of Cardenas Markets and Tony’s Fresh Markets named Ted Frumkin senior vice president of store development, Heritage Grocers Group announced Wednesday.
Frumkin, who has worked as a consultant for the company since 2020, comes to the full-time post after most recently serving as group vice president of real estate and construction at The Fresh Market. He also served as chief development officer for Sprouts Farmers Markets and vice president of real estate for Staples, Inc. He has also held real estate posts with Rubio’s Restaurants, Office Depot, Walmart and Taco Bell.
At Heritage Grocers Group, Frumkin will oversee the retailer’s strategic real estate development and growth initiatives.

“Ted is an exceptional real estate executive with extensive experience in new store development, project management, procurement and financial analysis,” Prabash Coswatte, chief administrative officer for Heritage Grocers Group, said in a statement. “Ted will play a critical role in driving growth across all Heritage Grocers Group banners.”
Ontario, California-based Heritage Grocers Group is a specialty, ethnic food retailer that operates in California, Nevada, Arizona and Illinois. Heritage Grocers operates 58 Cardenas Markets locations, 19 stores under the Tony’s Fresh Market banner and seven Los Altos Ranch Market stores.
Last spring, asset management firm Apollo Funds, owner of Chicago-based Tony’s Fresh Market, acquired Hispanic grocery chain Cardenas Markets from investment firm KKR. The combined company became Heritage Grocers Group.
