The patented technology developed by Clear Lam produces a flexible, stackable and reclosable “pop-up box” produced from engineered rollstock on a proprietary vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) machine. “The DuPont Packaging Awards program recognizes and honors packaging excellence around the globe,” says Yasmin Siddiqi, DuPont Packaging Awards Program leader. “This year’s honorees demonstrate exceptional creativity in Technological Advancement, Responsible Packaging and Enhanced User Experience. These breakthroughs are revolutionizing the role of packaging and will be a catalyst for inspiring future innovations.” Entries represent the industry’s most innovative packaging designs, materials, technology, processes and services across the entire packaging value chain. “We’re proud to be recognized by DuPont among the world’s thought leaders in packaging innovation,” says James Sanfilippo, president and CEO of Clear Lam Packaging. “This packaging system represents the first ever end-to-end flexible packaging solution offering a stackable, reclosable alternative to traditional structures, so we believe it’s the wave of the future. Not only does the PrimaPak package provide consumers with a better user experience, the enhanced cubing translates into tangible fuel and warehouse space savings offering multiple opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the supply chain.” Clear Lam received the award at a ceremony held May 15 at the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, Del. The PrimaPak package is designed to replace bulky rigid jars, blow-molded containers, injection-molded packages, composite cans and stand-up pouches. It is stackable so PrimaPak technology improves package cube by 30% or more. The Fisher Nuts PrimaPak package was produced from a single roll of flexible film incorporating the Prima ExoShell made with recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) and the Peel and ReSeal lid system, eliminating the need for pre-formed bases, lids, labels, and shrink bands. By combining all components of the finished package in one roll of film, millions of pounds of packaging waste are eliminated. These benefits reduce the amount of packaging entering landfills. A international jury judges the DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation. Winners were selected from hundreds of entries provided by packaging designers, converters, consumer goods processors, retailers and equipment manufacturers from all regions of the globe. Clear Lam received the award at a ceremony held May 15 at the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, Del. For nearly a decade, Clear Lam has invested extensively in research and development through its Project EarthClear initiative to commercialize new packaging technologies that minimize the impact on the environment. These efforts include packaging materials made from renewable plastics, materials that incorporate recycled content and lightweighting technologies designed to reduce weight and enhance cubing.
