Construction began on H-E-B’s Lake Austin location in October 2019 but was slowed due to pandemic-related delays. But when the multi-level market —a first for the fast-growing Texas grocer—finally opened for business on Wednesday, shoppers got to tour the 97,000-square-foot supermarket that features several restaurants, underground parking and site-specific design elements. “This is a special store that the community has waited for with great anticipation, and we are excited to provide the dynamic shopping experience our loyal and deserving customers will be proud of for decades to come,” Lake Austin H-E-B Top Store Leader Jim Smith said in a statement. The new H-E-B blurs the lines between a grocery store and a restaurant, with many prepared food options for dine-in or takeaway. H-E-B now operates more than 430 stores across Texas and Mexico, under banners Central Market, Joe V’S Smart Shop and Mi Tienda.
