July marked a quiet month for new grocery openings, with just nine grand openings tracked by Winsight Grocery Business, significantly fewer than in recent months.

Store growth was once again led by Aldi, the fast-growing discounter that debuted four new stores in July. Aldi opened 10 new locations in June and five new stores in May.

Texas grocer H-E-B opened a pair of new supermarkets, one in McKinney and the other in Austin.

Organic-and-natural grocer Sprouts Farmers Market had planned to open a new location in Boca Raton, Florida, in July, but bumped the opening into August because of construction delays.

Grocers tracked by WGB opened 25 new stores in June and in May, 14 in April and an impressive 40 new locations in March.
