Texas grocer H-E-B this week started construction on its third supermarket in Pflugerville, a town about 30 minutes north of Austin.

The 127,000-square-foot supermarket will feature a True Texas BBQ restaurant, full-service pharmacy with two-lane drive-thru, fuel station and car wash. The store will offer home delivery as well as dedicated parking for curbside pickup.

H-E-B, the largest private employer in Texas, plans to hire 500 workers for the new store.

“We are thrilled to start construction on our third store in Pflugerville, a growing community we’ve proudly been a part of for 35 years,” H-E-B SVP for Central Texas Cathy Harm said in a statement. “We look forward to serving our dedicated customers in this part of Travis County with a new store that offers a wide assortment of quality products, innovative services and the best of what H-E-B has to offer.”

H-E-B opened its first Pflugerville location in 1987 on Wells Branch Parkway, followed by a second store in 2000 at 201 N FM 685.

Other amenities at the new H-E-B include a full-service bakery and tortilleria, large cheese and deli selection, expanded Healthy Living and organic foods departments, floral, prepared meals, sushi made in store, Asian grill, and a Texas Backyard department with outdoor entertaining items.

H-E-B last week opened a 107,000-square-foot supermarket in west Austin, on the site of the former Nutty Brown Café & Amphitheater. The performance space closed a couple of years ago after hosting concerts for more than two decades, and the new grocery store retains some of the space’s musical memorabilia.

On Wednesday, fast-growing H-E-B is slated to open a new grocery store in McKinney, north of Dallas. The 118,000-square-foot location is one of three heading to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in the near future, H-E-B said.

H-E-B has stores in more than 150 communities around Texas and operates more than 420 grocery locations.
