Texas grocer H-E-B is continuing its expansion into the Dallas-Fort Worth area, announcing this week a Nov. 2 opening date for its new store in Plano.

The 118,000-square-foot location includes a pharmacy with a drive-thru, a gas station and a car wash, as well as a True Texas BBQ restaurant with a drive-thru.

Last month, H-E-B opened a 111,000-square-foot store in Frisco, Texas. Early next year, H-E-B plans to break ground for a new store in Mansfield, Texas, about 40 minutes south of Dallas.

The grocer currently has more than 420 stores in Texas and Mexico.

Customers can begin shopping at the Plano store, for curbside pickup, on Oct. 31, the retailer said.

H-E-B started construction on the Plano location in June 2021.

“H-E-B has a long history serving Texans, including more than 20 years in the DFW community, and we’re excited to expand on this commitment by providing more shopping options and job opportunities for Texans,” said Juan-Carlos Rück, H-E-B EVP, North West Food/Drug Division, in a statement when construction began. “We’re committed to make this store a pillar for the city, and we look forward to providing an outstanding shopping experience with the best H-E-B has to offer.”

The newest store is designed to “reflect the character unique to the Plano community,” the company said last year, with a sustainability focus that includes CO2 refrigeration units, LED lighting and native landscaping.

H-E-B’s Plano store includes a bakery with tortillas made in-store, an extensive cheese selection, sushi prepare on-site, prepared meals, cooking demonstrations, a large selection of Texas-grown produce, a meat market, a large beer and wine offering, a healthy living department with bulk foods and more.

The Plano store was estimated to employ about 425 workers. H-E-B is the largest private employer in Texas.
