Hannaford to Build New Store in Brunswick, N.Y.
New store to be 52nd in New York state. The store in New York's Capital Region will create more than 150 jobs and offer customers time-saving features, including a drive-thru pharmacy and Hannaford To Go online ordering.
Hannaford Supermarkets has announced plans to build a new store in Brunswick, N.Y.
The 49,000-square-foot unit will be at the Intersection of Route 7 and Lord Avenue in Brunswick, a Rensselaer County town just east of Troy in New York’s Capital Region. The store will be the second in the town for Hannaford, which said it would continue to operate its existing store on 126th Street that was renovated last year.
Hannaford is the second-leading grocer in market share in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy metropolitan statistical area behind Price Chopper, according to Metro Market Studies. The company, a division of Ahold Delhaize USA, did not provide an opening date. Planned Grocery estimated a 2022 opening.
“This new location will make it even easier for Brunswick-area customers to do their grocery shopping for the week or pick up that one item they need,” Eric Blom, a spokesman for Scarborough, Maine-based Hannaford, said in a statement. “We are proud to be investing further in New York, bringing new jobs to the area and strengthening our relationship with the community.”
The Lord Avenue Hannaford will offer everyday low prices, with the added benefit of My Hannaford Rewards, a program that allows users to earn a 2% reward on all private-brand purchases and receive personalized coupons.
The supermarket also will have a full-service pharmacy, with drive-thru; Hannaford To Go, a service that allows customers to select items online and pick up their orders at the store; and what the company described as a “huge” selection of ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat items.
The store is expected to employ about 155 full- and part-time associates. It will be Hannaford’s 52nd supermarket in New York.
Hannaford operates 183 stores in Maine, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont and employs about 30,000.
