2022 Year in Review

This is the first article in WGB’s Year in Review series. Check the site each day for the next two weeks for a fresh look back at 2022 in the grocery industry.

It’s been a memorable year for the grocery industry, one that saw retailers (and consumers) contend with soaring grocery price inflation, two grocery giants make plans to join forces, private-label products rocket in popularity, tech advancements take hold and much more.

In fact, it was one of those tech stories that garnered the most clicks on WGB this year—an article by Diane Adam about Kroger’s test of shopping carts that feature a scale and camera for seamless checkout.

Stories about new grocery store openings dominated WGB’s most-read list for 2022, as readers kept tabs on retailer growth around the country. (We paid attention and recently launched WGB’s new stores map for a visual representation of grocery store growth.)
