Hy-Vee this week opened a new grocery store in Eldridge, Iowa, that was converted and upgraded from an acquired North Scott Foods supermarket.

The 21,789-square-foot Hy-Vee, which held a grand opening on Tuesday, brings 15,000 items—including 1,000 specialty and 500 produce products—plus fresh bakery, meat, seafood, deli and beer/wine/spirits departments to a community of about 6,700 people, which previously had single-unit grocer North Scott Foods as its only grocery store.

Other highlights of the Eldridge Hy-Vee include Chophouse meats, Hy-Vee Mealtime entrees, a general merchandise department, and a health, beauty/personal care and cosmetics department, as well as Aisles Online grocery e-commerce service. The store is open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and employs 85 associates, including 18 full-time staff. Hy-Vee retained all of North Scott Foods’ employees.

“Your Eldridge Hy-Vee is here to make your life easier, healthier and happier. We are here to provide you with the highest-quality products, with the best service, at an amazing value,” store director Eric Kracium said in a statement. “That includes everything from the freshest produce, top-quality meats and seafood, your favorite wine wine and spirits and so much more. If you haven’t shopped at Hy-Vee before, then I invite you to come in and experience what makes shopping at Hy-Vee so unique.”

The supermarket, at 425 E. Le Claire Road, marks West Des Moines, Iowa-based Hy-Vee’s first store in Eldridge, a suburb in the northern portion of the Quad Cities metropolitan area that straddles the Mississippi River in Iowa and Illinois. Hy-Vee said the conversion of the North Scott store to its banner ran from April 7 to 17.

Most recently, in February, Hy-Vee opened stores in Janesville and Oregon, Wisconsin. Overall, the food and drug retailer operates more than 285 stores in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
