Price Chopper has come full circle with the Wednesday opening of its newest store in Kansas City, Missouri, in the same area where the first Price Chopper opened in 1979.

Balls Food Stores, the 100-year-old parent company of Price Chopper, noted in a press release that the grand opening of the new store, located at 207 NE Englewood Road, included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a speech by Ball Food Stores CEO David Ball.

For the remainder of the month, the new store will feature balloon artists, face painters and a variety of specials and promotions.

“In 1923, Sidney and Mollie Ball purchased a building on the corner of 16th and Stewart in Kansas City, Kansas,” the company noted in a press release. “That decision would lead to generations of Balls family members dedicated to working and serving in the Kansas City community through their grocery business.”

Balls Food Stores now operates 25 supermarkets in the Kansas City area with more than 2,500 employees, operating under the banners of Hen House Market, Price Chopper, Sun Fresh and Payless Discount Foods.
